I made my first knife in 1967; it was a folder with two blades. I
have made and sold many knives since then. My wife and I live in the
mountains of Fort Davis, Texas. I refer to my shop location as the
only mile high knife shop that I know of in Texas.
I use Stainless Damascus,
154CPM and ATS34. For my folding knives, I use titanium for what’s
known as the “liners”. I design and cut my blades using the “stock
removal” method. This literally means removing excess material from
a piece of steel using files, grinders, etc. until the steel has the
blade shape I desire.
My blades are
hardened/heat-treated by one of the most well-known people in the
business: Paul Bos. Paul does the heat-treating for Buck Knives, as
well as many other custom knife makers.
A wide variety of
high-tech, durable handle materials are used giving each knife its
own one-of-a-kind look and feel. For the handles, also referred to
as scales, I use Fossil Mammoth Ivory, Premium Mother of
Pearl, Black Lip Pearl, Burl Ironwood and Giraffe Bone, etc. Fossil
Mammoth Ivory is found in Siberia and Alaska during the spring and
summer. It is between 10,000 and 50,000 years old, possibly older.
No ban exists on this Ivory since the Mammoths have been extinct for
thousands of years.
The
Stainless Damascus knife is a handcrafted work of art that doubles
as a practical tool. Stainless Damascus has integrity with a great
cutting edge while being resistant to corrosion. No two knives are
the same; they are tough, unique, and a joy to own. Possessing both
incredible durability and great beauty, the Stainless Damascus is a
material that will last for generations.
Each of my knives is
signed and numbered. Included with each knife is a Certificate of
Authenticity. Each knife will come equipped with a handcrafted
leather sheath.
I am a voting member of The Knifemakers Guild and a member of the Texas Knifemakers and Collectors Association. I am also a member of the Dallas Safari Club and Safari Club International.
